In GROW Batch #2 Session 4, participants explored tree attunement meditation as a way to return to the body, become present in the moment, and experience a sense of connection with nature.
Following previous sessions on recognising bodily sensations and exploring ways to respond to them, GROW Batch #2 Session 4 invited participants to widen their attention beyond themselves. Through grounding, mindful walking, and a guided meditation with trees, they were encouraged to notice their surroundings and make room for experiences that did not need immediate explanation.
Nature became more than a place to gather. It became a space to slow down, feel accompanied, and reconnect with the rhythms of life.
Returning to the Present Through the Senses

Facilitated by Isna from JourneywithIsna, GROW Batch #2 Session 4 began with grounding, breath meditation, and mindful walking as gentle ways to reconnect with the body and nature.
Participants were invited to notice what was happening within and around them: the sounds of the environment, the textures beneath their feet, the movement of air, and the landscape surrounding them.
As part of this nature-based meditation practice, they were encouraged to observe what emerged without rushing to understand or label every sensation, allowing themselves to become more present.
This practice offered a gentle reminder that being present does not always require finding answers. Sometimes, it begins with noticing what is already here.
Meeting a Tree in Our Own Way

At the heart of GROW Batch #2 Session 4 was tree attunement meditation, an invitation to slow down and explore our connection with nature through mindful awareness.
In article Tree Meditation, Sunita Rai (2020) describes a practice that guides attention through a tree’s roots, trunk, branches, and leaves, inviting reflection on qualities such as rootedness, stability, and resilience. These qualities offer a meaningful connection to our own experiences of navigating change and growth.
Facilitated by Isna from JourneywithIsna, GROW Batch #2 Session 4 invited participants to choose a tree they felt comfortable approaching and explore tree attunement meditation through their senses, bodily sensations, and breath.
Each person could decide how to engage with the tree: touching its trunk, observing it from a distance, or simply remaining nearby. There was no required interpretation or particular message to discover.
With an emphasis on choice, curiosity, and personal comfort, participants were encouraged to notice what emerged without forcing a particular feeling or searching for immediate answers.
Through this mindful connection with nature, participants explored simple ways to return to the present: noticing their breath, feeling their feet on the ground, and allowing themselves to be present with a living being.
Listening Beyond Words

How might we listen to ourselves without immediately searching for an answer?
During GROW Batch #2 Session 4, participants used a four-fold reflection sheet before and after the meditation to record their bodily sensations, thoughts, and feelings.
Through writing and personal reflection, they were invited to notice changes in their inner experience and document the messages or wisdom they associated with their encounter with a tree.
As part of the tree attunement meditation, this reflection was not about reaching a particular conclusion. Instead, it offered a way to pay closer attention to experiences that might not yet be easy to express in words.
Sometimes, giving an experience space is enough. We do not always need to interpret everything we feel or turn every moment into a lesson.
Nature Does Not Ask Us to Be Okay
When we are navigating grief, loss, and complicated emotions, being accompanied can take different forms.
In GROW Batch #2 Session 4, nature became a space to experience a different kind of presence. It does not ask us to explain ourselves, justify our feelings, or become better versions of ourselves before we are allowed to rest.
Through tree attunement meditation, participants were invited to reflect on the quiet strength of a tree that remains rooted through changing seasons. We, too, are allowed to move through change at our own pace.
We may need time to understand what we have lost, what has changed, or what we are still learning to carry. We may feel grounded one day and uncertain the next.
There is room for all of this.
Through GROW Batch #2 Session 4, reconnecting with nature became an invitation to find moments of steadiness amid emotional change. It does not mean that grief disappears or that time outdoors will resolve everything. Rather, it offers another space in which we can pause, breathe, and experience the present without needing to have everything figured out.
Bringing the Experience Home

Through GROW Batch #2 Session 4, participants were reminded that connection is not limited to relationships between people. Our relationship with the natural world can also offer opportunities to feel supported, return to bodily awareness, and find moments of calm amid difficult emotions.
Through their encounters with trees, participants were invited to reflect on the rhythms of life: how living things change, adapt, and continue growing in their own ways.
Each participant also received tea from Tumbuh Space as a small reminder to make room for rest beyond the session. A cup of tea can become an invitation to pause, check in with ourselves, and notice what we need.
At the same time, reconnecting with nature asks us to consider how we care for the living world around us. We can practise this through simple gestures: asking permission before interacting with plants, expressing gratitude, and taking only what we need.
Caring for ourselves and caring for nature are not separate practices. Both invite us to pay attention to our relationships with the world that sustains us.
Growing Together, at Our Own Pace

GROW Batch #2 Session 4 offered participants an opportunity to slow down, listen differently, and experience connection beyond words.
Thank you to Isna for holding space throughout GROW Batch #2 Session 4, and to all participants for their willingness to show up, slow down, and explore their relationships with themselves and nature through tree attunement meditation.
We hope this experience leaves behind a little more room to breathe, a gentler way of listening to ourselves, and a reminder that we are part of something larger than ourselves.
Because we do not have to grow alone.
