Sometimes it shows up as an emptiness that’s hard to explain.
As a distance that suddenly feels deeper.
As a fatigue that doesn’t go away, even when you’ve been trying to stay strong every day.

 

Many of us live with these experiences quietly.
Without always having the language to describe them.
Without always having a space that feels safe enough to process them.

 

And often, what we need isn’t a quick solution.
But a space to pause, to feel, to understand and to know that we are not alone.

 

That’s where GROW comes in.

About GROW

GROW (Grief-informed Resilience, Ownership, and Wellbeing) is a community-based support group program designed by Talk Mental Health Indonesia as a non-clinical, grief-informed space centered on human connection. GROW is not a therapy space, and it does not aim to “fix” you.

Instead, GROW is a space to:

  • show up as you are
  • slowly make sense of your experiences
  • find gentler ways to keep going

The program integrates various approaches from personal reflection, expressive arts, and body awareness to connection with nature to create an experience that is holistic, grounded, and deeply human.

Why This Program Exists

Many young people experience forms of loss that are not always recognized as grief:

  • loss of a sense of safety
  • painful changes in relationships
  • life pressures and expectations
  • past experiences that haven’t been processed
  • or the feeling of “no longer being yourself”

But in reality:

  • not everyone has access to professional support
  • not everyone has a safe environment to open up
  • and not everyone knows how to begin understanding themselves

As a result, these experiences are often suppressed, denied, or carried alone.

GROW exists as a starting point not an instant solution, but a space that is safe enough to begin.

Program Objectives

Through a 6-week journey, GROW aims to support participants to:

Understand grief as a broad and deeply human experience

Build a more honest language to name their feelings

Express emotions in safe and diverse ways

Experience support from others (peer support)

Recognize the connection between the body,
emotions, and personal needs

Develop a sense of ownership over their healing process

GROW Approach

GROW uses an integrative and layered approach, recognizing that each person processes experiences in their own way.

 

1. Grief-Informed Group Support

Participants are guided to understand that grief:

  • is not always visible
  • is not always linear
  • and can show up in many forms in everyday life

2. Creative Expression

We use:

  • journaling
  • expressive writing
  • visual and symbolic art

as mediums to express things that are difficult to put into words.

 

3. Body-Based & Movement Practice

Through:

  • body mapping
  • simple movement exercises
  • regulation techniques

participants learn that emotions are not only in the mind, but also live in the body.

 

4. Nature-Based Reflection

Nature is used as a space to:

  • ground oneself
  • reconnect with the self
  • and engage in calm, grounded reflection

 

5. Peer Support Ecosystem

Each session is supported by:

  • a facilitator
  • a peer facilitator
  • and an introduction to peer counselors

Because we believe the process feels lighter when it is not carried alone.

6-Week Journey

GROW is designed as a step-by-step journey:

Week 1 — Starting with Safety

Building a sense of safety & understanding grief as a human experience

Week 2 — Express Without Shame

Making space for emotions that have been held back

Week 3 — When the Body Holds It Too

Recognizing the connection between the body and emotions

Week 4 — Grounding in Nature

Slowing down, grounding, and reflecting through nature

Week 5 — Finding Your Inner Compass

Who Can Join

This program is designed for:

  • teenage girls and young women (18–30 years old)
  • those who are experiencing loss, confusion, or feeling overwhelmed
  • those who want to better understand themselves emotionally
  • those who need a safe space to grow

Location: Yogyakarta

Quota: 15–20 participants

A Space We Hold Together

We understand that this process is not easy.
That’s why GROW is built on the following principles:

  • Safety — an emotionally safe space
  • Consent — you have control over what you choose to share
  • Confidentiality — what is shared in this space stays protected
  • No judgement — every experience is valid

You don’t have to always be strong here.
You just need to show up.
