Rekah Project
From Brokennes, Something Blooms

Rekah is a creative wellness experience that invites participants to embrace their emotional journey, reconnect with themselves, and discover healing through art, reflection, and clay.

A collaboration between Talk Mental Health Indonesia (TMH.id) and Nangsib Keramik, Rekah combines mental health practices, local culture, and creative expression to create a safe and meaningful space for growth.

Because what is broken is not the end, it can become the place where something beautiful begins to bloom.

About Rekah

In Indonesian, the word “Rekah” carries two beautiful meanings. It means a crack or fracture, symbolizing the moments in life when we experience loss, heartbreak, disappointment, or emotional pain.

Yet it also echoes the word “merekah,” which means to blossom or bloom, like a flower opening its petals or the dawn breaking across the horizon. Within this single word lies the heart of our project:

What is broken can also become the beginning of new growth.

Our Philosophy

There are moments in life when our hearts feel shattered. Whether through grief, the loss of a loved one, heartbreak, unfulfilled dreams, or wounds we cannot even name, we are often taught to “move on” quickly, hide our pain, and pretend everything is okay.

Rekah embraces a different belief. Inspired by the Japanese philosophy of Kintsugi, the art of repairing broken pottery with gold, we believe that cracks should not be hidden, they should be honored.

In Kintsugi, the fractures become the most beautiful part of the object because they tell its story. Likewise, our emotional scars do not diminish our worth. When we allow ourselves to process rather than avoid our pain, those experiences can become the very places where resilience, wisdom, and self-compassion grow.

We believe healing is not about becoming who we were before. It is about becoming someone even more whole because of what we have lived through.

Why We Created Rekah

Modern life moves fast. Many adults rarely have the opportunity to slow down, reconnect with themselves, or express emotions in a healthy way. We also recognize several challenges:

  • Safe emotional spaces are often divided by gender, leaving few inclusive environments where everyone feels welcome.
  • Creative play is often seen as something only children need, while adults are expected to be productive all the time.
  • Many people long to reconnect with themselves but don’t know where to begin.
  • There are limited opportunities to experience mental wellbeing through creativity, culture, and community.

Rekah was created to answer these needs. It is a welcoming space where people of all genders can explore emotions through clay, creativity, mindfulness, and meaningful human connection.

Why Art for Mental Wellbeing?

Art allows us to express emotions that words often cannot capture.
Working with clay engages both the body and mind, encouraging mindfulness, emotional awareness, creativity, and self-reflection.

Research has shown that creative expression can help reduce stress, improve emotional regulation, and strengthen overall psychological wellbeing.

Rekah is not psychotherapy or clinical treatment.
Instead, it is a creative wellbeing experience designed to support mental health through art, community, reflection, and meaningful human connection.

Let Something New Bloom

Healing doesn’t always mean becoming who you were before.
Sometimes healing means embracing every crack, every scar, and every chapter of your story with compassion.

Because when we give our broken places the space and care they deserve, they do not become weaker.
They bloom.
